DRO Health

Product designer100K+ consultations2019–2021 · Health tech

Redesigned a telehealth platform for 50,000+ users in Nigeria, covering consultations, medication delivery and lab tests. The goal was to get people from worry to a doctor faster, and to make the product feel trustworthy enough to share symptoms with.

Part one

The platform and the redesign

What DRO Health does, the team, and every flow I redesigned.

Overview

Care in minutes instead of a lost day

DRO Health puts consultations with licensed doctors, medication delivery, lab tests and health records in one app. In Nigeria, seeing a doctor often means a full day lost to travel and waiting.

People open this app with a real health concern, not to browse. Every point of friction has a direct cost to someone’s wellbeing. I worked with the co-founder, two other designers and the engineering team across the app, the website and the design system.

What I designed

Every major flow in the care experience

From sign-up to seeing a doctor, getting medication and tracking lab results.

Onboarding screen
01Onboarding

Short screens on what the app does, skippable from the first.

Log in screen
02Log in

Social login first; email and password as the fallback.

Find a specialist screen
04Find a specialist

Specialisations first, then doctors with languages, price and a book button on every card.

Book a doctor screen
05Book a doctor

Day, time and available doctors on one screen, so booking is one decision instead of five.

Every order tracked from confirmation to delivery, grouped by store.

Diagnostic tests screen

Upcoming tests with who requested them and where to go, and booking another is one button.

Part two

Deep dive: from worry to a doctor

Why people couldn’t reach the care they came for, and the three calls that fixed it.

The problem

All the right services, hard to reach

People came with one of three goals: see a doctor, order medication or book a test. All three were buried under cluttered navigation and long flows.

All of this before reaching a doctor
01

Open the app

A real health concern and an urgent need to see a doctor.

02

What we learned

People trust care that looks cared for

We looked at session data and sign-up analytics, and talked to users about why they hesitated.

Session data

Three goals, most sessions

80% of sessions started with seeing a doctor, ordering medication or booking a test.

Sign-up analytics

Drop-off at the details

People left when asked for medical and address details before seeing any value.

User conversations

Polish signals safety

An inconsistent interface made people doubt the care behind it.

The insight

Lead with the three things people came for, and ask for personal details only when the moment makes them feel necessary.

Key decisions & trade-offs

Three calls that got people to care faster

Decision 01

Build the homepage around three intents

The call

Three action zones (see a doctor, order medication, book a test). Everything else is secondary.

The trade-off

Giving every service equal space felt fair to the business and failed users. With 80% of sessions starting from one of three goals, prioritising them cut the first decision from eight-plus options to three.

Decision 02

Earn the right to ask for personal data

The call

Sign-up needs an email and password. Medical details are collected during the first booking, when the reason is obvious.

The trade-off

Collecting everything upfront is cleaner for data and worse for trust. People questioned why a health app needed their address before they’d seen a doctor. Asking later costs a step in booking and wins the sign-up.

DRO Health sign-up with social login

Decision 03

Treat consistency as clinical credibility

The call

One component system across app and website: primary actions in brand purple, secondary in outline, one set of spacing and type.

The trade-off

Shipping features on inconsistent screens was faster. In healthcare it’s also how you lose people: if the app looks careless, they wonder about the care.

Faster to care, easier to trust

The design system also let engineering ship new features faster. People could go from opening the app to booking a doctor in under a minute.

Reflection

In healthcare, people won’t finish a flow they don’t feel safe in, however fast it is.

If I did this again, I’d push harder on what happens after the consultation: prescription tracking, follow-up reminders and health progress. We optimised getting people to a doctor, but long-term retention lives after the visit.
